They're childhood friends/boyfriends because flickity flack I'm so gay. Orangen's the one with the apple head. He's the more active, touchy-feely guy but gets embarrassed easily when Apfel-kun gets assertive. Apfel's the orange. Very shy and flustered a lot but as he grew up he became more bold and open with Orangen-kun.
They decided to become friends when they were kids because of their names. Ever since then they decided to switch and call themselves the other's name. So Apfel-kun's called Orangen and Orangen's called Apfel to match their heads.
